Encourage your children to read with these books

I received these books from The Quarto Group for review.

Humperdink Our Elephant Friend is a really cute book that helps children learn to overlook differences in others.  It has a hard cover and is written by Sean Taylor and illustrated by Claire Alexander.  Humperdink is a baby elephant who joins a children's play group and causes chaos when he tries to play the way they do.  After he breaks their slide, everyone is sad.  But then they decide to adapt their play in order to include Humperdink.  They begin to do what he does, like stomp around the yard.  Everyone had a great time and the children learned a valuable lesson about inclusion.  This book us a wonderful tool to use to help children understand that it's ok to be different.  It shows them that just because someone may not be able to do all of the things they do, doesn't mean they can't have fun together.  There are always ways to find new games or ways to play in order to include some one who just can't manage to do the same things everyone else can do.  And it can be just as fun as their usual play methods.  You can purchase this book for $17.95 on Amazon or on the website Quarto Knows.

Science in a Jar was written by Julia Garstecki and is a perfect gift for your little (or grown up) scientist, or anyone who loves to conduct experiments.  It contains over 35 experiments in Biology, Chemistry, Weather, the Environment and more.  Using just a jar and a few other inexpensive and readily available household items, you can conduct all of these experiments.  Inside the book you will find a supply list and the difficulty level for each experiment, followed by a short description of the project and the scientific principles that the experiment utilizes.  Readers are guided by instructions and photographs.  It also gives definitions of the various terms, gives interesting facts and briefly describes how the specific concepts are applied by scientists every day.  This book will encourage kids, and even adults, to love science and to be curious and confident as they conduct the various experiments by helping them understand how science works by giving them a better understanding of basic scientific concepts.  You can purchase this book for $17.95 on Amazon or on the website Quarto Knows.
