A creative gift for young artists and nature lovers

I received this book from TumbleHome Books for review.  The Nature Explorer’s Sketchbook (For the Art of Your Discoveries) by Jean Mackay is set to be released on November 1 and you will be able to find it on Amazon for $16.95.  You can even preorder it now!  It would make a great gift for any young artist, explorer or nature lover.  Include some colored pencils, paints, pencils or even crayons, and you will have a happy youngster on Christmas morning.

This sketchbook helps kids look more closely at nature and capture what they discover with pencil, pen, and paint.  The Nature Explorer's Sketchbook inspires exploration, creativity and observation, with beautiful sketchbook illustrations, ideas, tips and plenty of space for kids to draw.  There are 28 pages of instruction and color illustrations followed by blank pages to draw on.  There are additional hints and examples every ten pages within the blank pages.  This is a perfect tool for home schoolers, environmental education programs, STEAM programs, or to give as a gift to young artists and nature lovers. It is recommended for ages 10 and over.  This is an excellent way to encourage your child to begin a journal, and the hints and examples help give them ideas and inspiration for what sort of things they can draw on the blank pages.

The author of this book, Jean Mackay, is an artist and environmental educator who has been keeping nature journals for more than 25 years.  She teaches workshops nationally and shares the ordinary, yet extraordinary things that she encounters close to home and farther afield on her blog, Drawn In.

  1. This is a beautiful book and will inspire even the most artistically challenged to pick up a pencil and capture what they see. Great gift to help get kids outdoors and really looking at their world.

    1. Yes it is! My kids love it, they take it with them and go walk through the woods, drawing things they see!
