Creation Crate combines hands on learning with online courses!

I received this product from Creation Crate for review.  Creation Crate is a monthly subscription service for ages 12 and over.  It is equally suitable for teenagers and adults and would make a wonderful Christmas present.  Each month you will receive an electronics kit that contains everything you need to build that month's project.  All electronic projects come with access to an online course with instructions, video tutorials, and educational content.  Each month, the projects will become more challenging and will build on the lessons you learned completing the prior month's project.

The project you will receive in your first month's package is a mood lamp.  You will complete a lamp that changes colors and will only turn on when it's dark.  All of the materials and components you will need will be included in your first month's package.  You will also have access to an online course that will guide and show you how to correctly put the lamp together and how to write your code to make it work.  You will find the access code to the online classroom inside your project box.

These projects would be perfect for you teenager to do alone, or as a shared project between siblings or even parent and child.  When you subscribe, you can choose to pay by the month (for $29.99 per month) if you are not sure how many projects you will want to do.  If you choose to prepay for 3 months ($89.97), you will receive a bonus item with a bonus value of $15.  If you prepay for 6 months ($179.94), you will receive two bonus items with a total bonus value of $25.  And if you prepay for 12 months ($359.88), you will receive three bonus items with a total bonus value of $65.  There is no bonus item with the monthly payment plan.

None of the bonus items are required to complete any of the projects, they are just nice to have.  To go into more detail on the bonus items, here is a brief description of each.

Digital Multimeter:  A Digital Multimeter is a test tool typically used to measure voltage (volts), current (amps) and/or resistance (ohms). This will help you troubleshoot your projects by testing your wiring and circuits.  This bonus item is included in the 3 Month Subscription, 6 Month Subscription and 12 Month Subscription.

Component Case:  Keep your projects organized with a Component Case! This case has a bunch of different compartments that you can use to store and organize all the components you'll receive in your monthly kits.  This bonus item is included in the 6 Month Subscription.

Soldering Kit:  Soldering is joining metals together by melting them together, usually to create a permanent connection between electronic components. This Soldering Kit incudes a soldering iron, solder wire, solder wick, stand and a cleaning sponge.  This bonus item is included in the 12 Month Subscription.

Component Case XL:  The Component Case XL is the BIGGEST and BADDEST component storage box Creation Crate havs to offer. You can fit 12 months worth of components in this jumbo size storage box.  This bonus item is included in the 12 Month Subscription.

If you have a teenager who is interested in learning electronics and coding, or even if it is yourself or another adult who is interested, you really can't go wrong with a Creation Crate subscription!

  2. Some subscriptions are very useful and this one seems a good example of it. I do have some kids in my extended family that would benefit from it.

  15. Sounds like such an interesting box, and I like that it is for ages 12+. It can be tough to find things for kids to do other than using their cell phones!
